Proposed Street Name Change in Buenos Aires

Porteno legislator Yamil Santoro presented a bill in the City Legislature to change the name of "Estado de Palestina" street to "Familia Bibas." The proposal is intended to honor the victims of a terrorist attack perpetrated by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

The proposed modification seeks to pay tribute to Yarden Bibas, who was freed alive, Shiri Silberman, and her children Ariel (5 years old) and Kfir (9 months), who unfortunately passed away during captivity and whose bodies were recently repatriated to Israel. The street in question is located in the Almagro neighborhood, between Teniente General Juan Domingo Perón and José Antonio Cabrera.

Santoro emphasized that "Hamas is death" and that it is essential to remember the victims of terrorism. He also highlighted that the Bibas family had Argentine ties and lived in the kibbutz Nir Oz, a community severely affected by the attack carried out by the terrorist group. "It is even death for the very people they claim to defend. And that is why we propose actions like this change, because the victims of terrorism must be remembered," the legislator stated.

"Recognizing a failed state, appropriated by terrorism, is a deliberate act of forgetfulness and omission of the atrocities committed," Santoro added, stressing that nothing can justify the extreme acts of violence that the Bibas family and other victims endured. The confirmation of the death of the two children and their mother represents profound pain for all. "Hamas is death, they have no other way of acting," concluded Santoro.
